Why Replacing This Liverpool Flop For A Proven Argentine Striker Makes Sense

The nail is almost put in the coffin, it seems that time is up for Mario Balotelli and his English sojourn at Liverpool. The much talked about striker has not been able to hold a place in the team and even when fit he has featured more on the bench rather than in the playing XI. Against Sunderland, it was Fabio Borini, who for all intents and purposes is another striker who really does not have a future, was played rather than the former Inter Milan, AC Milan and Manchester City striker.

There have been murmurs of a move back to Italy for Mario in this transfer window with Sampdoria willing to sign the Italian striker, although those are just rumours at the moment. Liverpool would need a new striker in place of Mario and the player who they seem to have earmarked for this window is Argentine forward, Gonzalo Higuain who currently plays for Napoli.

The 27 year old could be available at the right price and has been on the wish list for a few Premier League clubs for quite a few seasons, getting the Argentine in place of Balotelli would be a major coup for Liverpool and it would make a lot of sense for Liverpool to complete both deals as soon as possible.

More money, no problems

Bringing in Higuain and selling Balotelli may not make sound financial sense as Liverpool will probably lose out on money from the deal but also from selling Balotelli, he would probably be sold for a loss when compared to the £16 million Liverpool initially paid for the Italian but in a purely footballing sense the deal makes more sense than the initial signing of Balotelli.

Higuain is a proven goal scorer and has done the same for Napoli even after his big money move away from Real Madrid. He already has 38 goals in his near 2 years at Napoli while Balotelli has scored 32 goals in one more year of action. Another factor which would actually clinch the deal for Higuain at Liverpool is his movement; he has often played for Argentina on either wing and does not have to play as a centre forward in every game.

Balotelli might have more strength when compared to Higuain but the Argentine has better movement and finishing skills. The Argentine was actually willing to leave Napoli if they did not make the UEFA Champions League and sadly that happened this season as they missed out after having lost to Atheletic Bilbao in the qualification round.

Higuain could work amazingly well for any club but playing alongside Daniel Sturridge and Raheem Sterling who both have great movement as well would enable the Argentine to play at another level, sadly the end of Balotelli’s reign (not a happy one) might be coming to an end and another King from Naples might be coming to help the Liverbird.
