3 Positions That Arsenal Must Upgrade Even If They Win The League: An Upgrade For Ramsey?

Share

Another Champions League outing and another reality check for Arsenal as they lost out to Barcelona in the first leg of the tie. It will take a miracle for the Gunners to get through to the quarterfinal stage of the competition and that would probably count as one of the biggest shocks in this season’s competition.

They however did hold Barcelona off till the 70th minute but that was about it. What Arsenal lacked in ability, they surely did try to overcome through their grit and determination but that was not enough for the job to be complete.

Arsenal though still have a great chance of winning the title and even if they do or they don’t, there are quite a few positions that need to be upgraded. We look at three positions that Arsenal need to revamp at the start of next season.

  1. Centre-back

While Laurent Koscielny has looked incredible for Arsenal in the last two-three years, his defensive partners haven’t looked that good. The Frenchman seems to have to do all the hard work while the likes of Per Mertesacker and Gabriel take time to adjust, well they do make their fair share of mistakes.

Per Mertesacker

Arsenal have needed another stalwart in defence and while they would have to spend a bunch, they have shown that getting the right player is not the hardest thing in the world. They brought in Petr Cech to solve their goalkeeping issues and that has worked out for them really well this season.

2. Striker

Let’s get first things right, Olivier Giroud is a pretty good striker but he isn’t the most clinical forward in the world of football and neither is his movement the best. He is a great player to have when you need a plan B. The rest of the Arsenal attack force aren’t world class by any stretch of the imagination.

Giroud

Danny Welbeck plays mostly as a wide man cutting in and even as a striker he does not look half as good as Giroud. Theo Walcott, well, we don’t even know what Arsene Wenger wants from him, mixing him around as a wide player or as a striker. If Arsenal do sign someone who can guarantee them the movement and pace they require at the front, they could do much more than just winning the league.

3. An Upgrade For Ramsey

To take it to the next level, Arsenal need a better Central midfielder than Aaron Ramsey. 2 Seasons, when the Welshman had a great season with regular goals, we all though he will end up as a world beater but in last few seasons, his form dropped and Santi Cazorla became the main central mid partner for Coquelin.

Someone like Vidal or Pogba would do wonders for this Arsenal side.
