Manchester United could still make it into the Champions League thanks to the faltering form of Arsenal and Manchester City. The Red Devils are just six points off a top four spot and good run of results till the end of the season could give ensure they play in Europe’s most coveted football tournament.
For all that, it hasn’t been the greatest season for the Red half of Manchester. They were knocked out of the League Cup and then unceremoniously dumped out of the UEFA Champions League though they still have a chance of winning the Europa League.
Manchester United though haven’t had the best of attacking displays during most of the season and the need to revamp that is important. We look at three players who should be sold in the summer transfer window, irrespective of Louis van Gaal staying at the club or not.
3. Adnan Januzaj
The winger was supposed to be the next big thing to come out from the Manchester United academy but his performances have tailed since breaking into the team a few years ago. The icing on the cake was seeing him getting transferred to Borussia Dortmund at the start of this season on loan but the 21-year-old couldn’t mark his presence in Germany under coach Thomas Tuchel.
Now he is back at United but isn’t really part of the plans for Louis van Gaal, maybe a change in scenery could help the young Belgian get his ability back.
2. Marouane Fellaini
The tree in the middle of the Manchester United team should also be another one who could see his time at the club coming to an end in the summer. When Fellaini was purchased by David Moyes everyone expected the Belgian to achieve all that he had done at Everton from a playing point of view.
However, neither Moyes, Ryan Giggs or Louis van Gaal have been able to understand what the role of the 28-year-old Belgian international in the side is and Manchester United should just cut their losses when they still have the chance by selling him in the summer.
A tough one to call since a lot of Manchester United players haven’t hit their stride this season. Nevertheless, Memphis Depay should have been one of the star performers this season but he hasn’t been able to hit the heights that he achieved with PSV Eindhoven.
Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard seem to have taken up his slots in the first team and the Dutch attacker rarely gets to play a full 90 minutes in other games as well. We don’t suggest he gets sold but more likely gets sent out on loan to get his mojo back.
