Premier League opinion: Three clubs who should target Julian Brandt

German outlet Bild has reported that Bayer Leverkusen star Julian Brandt only has a £22million release clause. This, given his abilities, makes him an absolute steal.

An incredible blend of creativity, pace and power, the German has been one of Leverkusen’s standout stars this season.

Infamously known as the man who took Leroy Sane’s 2018 World Cup spot, Brandt has made a name for himself as one of the most promising stars in the world. This season, the 22-year-old has produced 20 goals in 34 appearances, which includes 13 assists.

He’s only behind two other super youth starlets in Jadon Sancho and Joshua Kimmich when it comes to most goals created. That means, in the Bundesliga alone, Brandt is responsible for 30% of Bayer Leverkusen’s goals this season.

Given his talent, clubs would be wasting their time if they don’t target this player and here are three Premier League clubs who should target Julian Brandt.

3) Everton

The only club outside the top six in the Premier League who are worthy of landing Julian Brandt, the Toffees need the German more than anyone else as well. Theo Walcott’s sudden decline has been a shocker this season, with the former Arsenal star struggling.

But barring the Englishman, Everton only have Richarlison, Bernard and Ademola Lookman. While Bernard is still adapting to the Premier League, Lookman has failed to make an impact under Marco Silva.

While the 21-year-old is a talented winger, he still needs time to adapt to Silva’s tactics but adding someone like Julian Brandt will help the club. They have lofty ambitions but adding Brandt will go a long way in helping them achieve that.

2) Tottenham

They were, alongside Liverpool and Manchester City, the title challengers once the season reached its half-way mark. However, selling Mousa Dembele proved to be a problem for the club, with injuries playing a massive part in their downfall.

Not only did the North London side lose Heung-Min Son in between but also Lucas Moura, Harry Kane and Dele Alli. That effectively ended their title race, but bringing in Julian Brandt will solve that. Erik Lamela looks a shadow of his AS Roma self, struggling to make an impact.

Moussa Sissoko was brought in as a winger and has been transformed into a decent central midfielder. Mauricio Pochettino has a solid core at Tottenham but if they don’t start winning trophies soon, then it will be difficult to keep hold of the star players.

Bringing in someone as talented as Julian Brandt will help them do that, and possibly sustain a title challenge.

1) Arsenal

If there is one Premier League club that needs a hard-working and talented winger, it’s Arsenal. The North London side do have Danny Welbeck, Alex Iwobi, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and even Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in their ranks.

However, Aubameyang is a striker, while Welbeck is injured and out of contract. This leaves the club with only Iwobi and Mkhitaryan, and while the two have been doing relatively well, the Gunners need reinforcements.

Unai Emery has done relatively well with the players he has at his disposal, but there is only so much the former Sevilla boss can do with tactical changes.

A few reinforcements plus the addition of Julian Brandt will help turn the club into a bonafide challenger for the title once again.

Tom Landry once said "Football is an incredible game. Sometimes it's so incredible, it's unbelievable." Football is and always will be the beautiful game. What every child understands, yet every adult struggles to, is that it is a game that defines the nature of the universe. But that's just me.
