Aston Villa came from three goals down to finish the game level against Sheffield United at Villa Park to start another matchweek of the Championship in crazy fashion. Billy Sharp scored a typical poacher’s hat-trick but Dean Smith’s side netted three late goals to rescue a point. Tyrone Mings, Tammy Abraham and Andre Green were the scorers for the home side.
The Blades took the lead in the 11th-minute when Gary Madine provided a headed assist for Sharp to score following a corner. Eight minutes into the second half, the aforementioned assist-provider hit the post from his header, but his strike partner was there to finish from close range.
Chris Wilder’s men tripled the lead and Sharp completed his hat-trick in the 62nd minute with a fine header from close range. At this moment, the home fans feared the worst as Sheffield United looked set to cruise to victory.
But something crazy started to happen from the 82nd minute. Following a Conor Hourihane corner, Mings rose well to head the ball into the top-left corner to give some hope to the Villans. Four minutes later, Abraham came up with a right-footed shot into the bottom right corner after a set-piece situation to make things even more interesting.
Then it was in the 94th minute that Aston Villa completed the comeback. John McGinn delivered a great cross and Andre Green rose well to head the ball into the top-left corner to send his team and the whole of Villa Park into a frenzy.
Such an unexpected result by any stretch of the imagination. Sheffield United must be kicking themselves, but what a morale-boosting draw for Villa.
