According to reports from Belgian media outlet RTBF, midfield superstar Axel Witsel is Chelsea’s latest summer target. The report further added that Blues’ owner Roman Abramovich has travelled to St. Petersburg to complete the signing of the 26-year-old superstar, who has been quite impressive in recent times.
Apart from the west London side, Serie A giants AC Milan were also quite keen on signing the Zenit midfielder, whilst Italian champions Juventus had an agreement to bring him to Turin, in case Paul Pogba or Aturo Vidal leave.
Zenit want a price of £28m for the Belgian international while Abramovich will look to travel to Russia in order to negotiate with club owner and friend Alexander Dyukov Valeryevich.
RTBF further added that Jose Mourinho too is a close friend of Axel Witsel’s adviser Lucien D’Onofrio, which might play a part in bringing the midfield superstar to Stamford Bridge this summer.
If a move does indeed go through, Witsel could join compatriots Eden Hazard, Thibaut Courtois and Charly Musonda, who are part of the Premier League champions’ squad.
