Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has ruled out a move for wantaway West Ham forward Dimitri Payet. Although he admits he is interested in the Frenchman, Wenger insists he has no need to sign another attacking player.
There are a host of elite clubs that would love to have the sensational midfielder play for them but the fact that his petulancy of ‘faking injuries’ would make the top European clubs think twice.
Payet wants to leave the Hammers this month but is understood to be resisting huge-money offers from China because he wants to return to his former club Marseille in France.
Ahead of the Gunners’ clash with Burnley on Sunday, Wenger said: “I don’t need Payet because we have so many creative players.”
“I rate Payet as a player, of course, but it’s not an area where we are looking for some players.”, added Wenger.
“No. We have many players offensively who can play in this position. You are interested by the quality of the player but there needs to be a need as well, and we have no need in this domain.” He further explained.
And it is understood that Arsenal do have a depth in quality midfield players and may have to focus on other areas that require immediate attention.
However, the futures of attacking players Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez remain uncertain, however, with both players in the final 18 months of their contracts.
Wenger has insisted they will not be sold even if the two superstars, who have 21 goals between them this season, fail to agree extensions.
