Burnley will take on EFL Championship side Leeds United in the third round of the Carabao Cup, at the Turf Moor on Tuesday night.
The Clarets have started off the season on a strong note and sit 7th in the Premier League table, having won against Chelsea and drawn games against the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool. Sean Dyche’s men defeated Blackburn Rovers 2-0 in the second round of the competition and the manager will be hoping to continue their run in the cup competitions with a win over the Championship leaders.
Captain and goalkeeper Tom Heaton will miss out after undergoing a surgery on his dislocated shoulder, while deadline day signing Nahki Wells is still not 100% fit. Jeff Hendrick is another one who is likely to miss out along with fellow midfielder Dean Marney.
The 25-year old has put in good displays in the last two games and should continue between the sticks for the midweek clash.
The summer signing from Stoke City will make his second cup appearance of the season, coming in for Matthew Lowton at right-back.
The Englishman has been majestic in the strong start to the season for the Clarets. Should keep his place in the heart of the defence.
Tarkowski will most likely be partnered by Kevin Long in the backline, with Ben Mee getting a day off against Leeds.
A reunion could be on the cards as the former Leeds man might come in for Stephen Ward at left-back. Will be motivated to perform well.
The Canadian started Burnley’s game against Liverpool in which he managed to find the back of the net. Should start on the right-hand side of the midfield.
The former Aston Villa man hasn’t had a lot of game time coming his way and should get his opportunity to impress in the cup game.
The summer recruit from Swansea has become a key cog in the middle of the park for Burnley. And with Hendrick a doubt for the game, he should retain his place in the side.
On the left side of the midfield, Robbie Brady should continue to feature from the kick-off. Scored in the last cup game and would be looking to add to his tally.
The New Zealand international made the switch from Leeds this summer and will be looking forward to going up against his former teammates. Should get the nod ahead of Sam Vokes.
The 27-year old is another player who has been relegated to off-the-bench duties this term and will want to leave a mark if he gets a chance on Tuesday night.
