Wolves Opinion: Should Nuno Santo sign Sebastian Driussi?

Wolves’ premier season back in the English top-flight under the able and steady managership of Nuno Espírito Santo can only be perceived as a massive success considering that they are a newly promoted side.

Despite this though, they’ve been able to make massive strides towards keeping their place in the Premier League scene. Currently 7th on the table, level on points with Watford but ahead on goal difference, they have looked like a side destined for greatness under this manager.

While there is still a 13-point gap between themselves and 6th-placed Chelsea, they have achieved a lot more than what was expected from them and this wouldn’t have been possible if not for their shrewd and effective use of the summer transfer window.

Including the local import of Adama Traore from Middlesbrough, they made quite a few signings, which have all had a positive impact. While the likes of Joao Moutinho and Jonny Castro have been massive successes, none has been more productive for Wolves than Benfica loanee Raul Jimenez.

The Mexican forward has come to the Premier League and with guidance from Nuno and the Wolves staff, he has really taken the entire league by storm with his sharp movement and astute finishing.

He has scored 11 goals from his Premier League fixtures and he’s also notched up 7 assists. His performances have been so inspired that he is yet to miss a single match this entire campaign, having featured in all 29.

While there is talk of a permanent move being in the pipeline as suggested by the Mirror, no assurance has been offered and in the case of a sudden departure in the summer, Wolves will have to look for alternatives.

Zenit St.Petersburg’s young Argentine centre-forward Sebastian Driussi can be the perfect player to come in and replace Jimenez at the Molineux given that his attributes and skill-set seem to be custom-made for the Premier League.

Like Liverpool’s Brazilian forward Roberto Firmino, Driussi is a dynamic forward player who likes to get on the ball and bring others into play, while also showing predatory instincts inside the opposition box.

He makes himself useful in the build-up play and is often found supporting the midfield as well. With talented players all around at Wolves, his movement and pace could be the perfect ingredient to Nuno’s recipe.

His 29 games this season have yielded 6 goals and 11 assists, which signifies the kind of player he is. With the guidance of a positive-minded manager like Nuno, the player will only develop further. This is a good proposition for both parties and Wolves must get this deal done in the summer.
