Wolves signing this 22-year-old Bundesliga ace for €60m would be a very silly move at this point – Here’s why

Wolves Opinion – Nuno’s men in for Joelinton – Good Move?

According to a report in Birmingham Live, Wolves have been linked to sign Hoffenheim striker Joelinton during this transfer window. Newcastle United were interested in making a move for him back in January but they got Miguel Almiron instead.

The 22-year-old is now being linked with a move to the English top-flight again but this time, Nuno Espirito Santo’s men have expressed their interest in the Brazilian. (h/t Birmingham Live)

His contract at Hoffenheim still has three years left, meaning the German side could demand a high fee for his sale. As per the report, something around €60m could be on the cards. (h/t Birmingham Live)

Another factor associated with this potential deal is that Joelinton has hinted at the possibility of staying in Germany for another season (h/t Birmingham Live). In spite of that, here’s why Wolves shouldn’t make an attempt to sign him this summer:

Spending a high amount on a possible backup option is not clever

Under Nuno Espirito Santo, Wolves play with a 3-5-2 formation with two strikers, three central midfielders, two wing-backs and three centre-backs.

During the course of last season, the most prolific strike pair in their team was that of Raul Jimenez and Diogo Jota. The duo scored 22 goals and supplied 12 assists in the Premier League.

While the former was on loan till this summer, the club has made a terrific move by making his stay permanent at the Molineux.

In a way, Wolves have their front two settled in every way, shape and form. They could do with a backup striker since their other players on the bench haven’t done enough to challenge for a regular place in the side.

Thus, in that sense, signing Joelinton makes sense. However, spending a huge sum of money just for a backup striker makes no sense at all.

Conclusion

All in all, we can conclude by saying that Wolves can look for a backup striker but they must sit this one out simply because of the steep price tag. Hence, they must forget about having an interest in Joelinton.
