Wolves opinion: Should Nuno Santo’s Wolves sign Marcos Rojo?

According to a report from The Mirror, Manchester United are willing to sell out of favour defender Marcos Rojo for a cut-price fee. The report reveals that United will accept a fee of just £6 million in the summer after paying £16 million for him five years ago.

The Argentine has horribly struggled with injuries having played just 18 games over the last two seasons. United are expected to have a huge overhaul of their squad in the summer and Rojo should be one of the first names out of the door to free up their wage bill.

Fellow Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers were keen on the 29-year-old back in the January transfer window. Wolves were battling it out with Everton for Rojo’s signature and with his price significantly lesser now, Nuno Santo should reignite his interest in him this summer.

Wolves have had an incredible campaign in the Premier League where they finished in 7th place. Nuno Santo’s magic has well and truly worked but a daunting qualifying stage of the Europa League is ahead of them in July.

Wolves will start their season in July which will be a humungous headache for them as witnessed with Burnley’s struggles this season. The hectic congestion of fixtures takes its toll on players and that almost cost the Clarets a place in the Premier League.

Wolves have a much better squad than Burnley did last time around but depth will be a huge issue for them. Nuno Santo’s side have just 20 players in their squad which is considerably lesser than most teams in Europe.

The Wanderers cannot make the same mistake as Burnley did last season and they should make it a point to bring in quality players who can help the team out when required. Marcos Rojo would be a phenomenal solution to their problem and Santo should sign him up in the summer.

Rojo’s versatility, experience and quality when fit will be a massive boost for Wolves next season. The Argentine is also a Europa League winner with United and his experience will come in handy for a number of players who are yet to feature in Europe.

Conclusion

Fixture congestion will be a massive headache for Wolves next season and they should address the issues with regards to their squad depth. Marcos Rojo will provide incredible cover in central defence as well as at left-back and his experience will surely come in handy for Nuno Santo and his side next season.
