Wolves reviving their interest in 27-year-old Monaco outcast would solidify their midfield instantly

Why Wolves should revisit their interest and sign Pele from Monaco

According to a report in Birmingham Mail, Wolves could revisit their interest in Monaco midfielder Pele, who was the Premier League club’s target in the summer window. The Guinea-Bissau international could arrive at the Molineux this month despite only signing for the French side in the summer.

The 27-year-old hasn’t featured much for Thierry Henry’s struggling Monaco, and super-agent Jorge Mendes, who has links with Wolves, could offer the player to Nuno Espirito Santo’s men. To be precise, Pele hasn’t played a league game since the middle of December. (Birmingham Mail)

As per the report, though the Birmingham-based club haven’t added in this window, they could look to search for midfield cover for the coveted duo of Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho. Here’s why they should sign Pele and bolster their squad further:

Nuno Espírito Santo

Pele would add more steel in the midfield

As of now, Wolves have the midfield pairing of Neves and Moutinho, however, more depth in that area would be fantastic. It is partly because of the fact that we have seen the latter playing as an attacking midfielder, and Leander Dendoncker or Romain Saiss partnering the former.

Hence, it is clear that Nuno’s men would do well to sign a new midfield player. Pele was their summer target, so the scouting part must have been done.

The 27-year-old has only featured eight times in the league in a struggling Monaco team, but that doesn’t deter away from the truth that he is a quality player who can play in different positions across the midfield.

Pele (L)

The Guinea-Bissau international is predominantly a defensive midfielder but he can be used in central midfield, chiefly in a double pivot, just like how Nuno sets his midfield up. In terms of the attributes, Pele is physically very strong, enabling him to be strong with and without possession.

His height (182cm) allows him to be a favourite to win aerial battles and be a threat in both boxes from set-piece situations. Furthermore, the control he has on the ball is something akin to what Moutinho does. All in all, he looks like a player who can fit into the 3-4-2-1/3-4-1-2 system of the Wolves manager.

If the club wants the player, they have a very good connection with super agent Jorge Mendes, who would help them in getting the deal done.
