Wolves Opinion: Why Nuno should keep hold of Adama Traore this summer?

According to a report from Italian outlet Calciomercato, Napoli are interested in signing Wolves forward Adama Traore. (h/t Teesside Live)

Adama Traore became Wolves’ record signing last summer when the Premier League club triggered the £18million release clause in his Middlesbrough contract.

The speedy winger enjoyed an impressive start to life at Molineux as he netted a dramatic late winner away at West Ham United in only his third appearance for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.

However, the 23-year-old’s season on a whole was largely underwhelming, with the goal against West Ham his only one in his 29 appearances for the Wanderers in the Premier League this past term.

Napoli have shown interest in Traore, with the report claiming Wolves willing to part ways with the player after just a season.

Traore’s future at Wolves has come into sharp focus this summer, as his first season with Wolves was nothing short of disappointment. Yet, Nuno must not lose faith in the young winger and offer him another season to get back his lost mojo.

Wolves enjoyed a fantastic return to the Premier League, finishing seventh in the table and set to play the Europa League qualifiers. They also had a good run in the FA Cup, only to get beaten in dramatic fashion by Watford.

Having been branded the best of the rest by securing that all-important place in next season’s Europa League, Nuno has some important decisions to make over the summer.

With the Wanderers slated to compete in an extra competition next term, getting some squad depth is an absolute necessity. Hence, it’s important for Nuno to resist any offers for Traore and ensure he stays at the Molineux next season.

Traore struggled to cement his place in Nuno’s side and the Portuguese tactician majorly used him from the bench, either to change the course of a game or kill of the match. The Spanish-born Malian made very little impact in his debut season at Molineux but the talent is clear for all to see.

He’s shown in flashes that he’s a quality player, but the 23-year-old needs to learn how to utilise his pace, power and skill to deadly effect, whilst adding an end product to his play.

And under one of Premier League’s astute tacticians in Nuno, the jet-heeled forward could take his game to the next level.

Verdict

If Nuno can help Traore unlock his true potential then Wolves could have a fantastic player in their hands. Hence, the ex-Barcelona starlet must be kept hold of at any cost.
