As per reports, Ruben Neves has signed a bumper new deal at Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Neves took many by surprise when he joined Molineux from FC Porto last summer. The midfielder had an outstanding first season with the club, emerging as arguably the best player in the Championship as Wolves romped to the title.
And now, tying Neves down to a new deal is a sensational sign of intent as Wolves prepare for life in the top-flight.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have taken a step in the right direction with the additions of Raul Jimenez and Rui Patricio. But the importance of Wolves’ decision to offer Neves a new deal cannot be explained.
Neves and Diogo Jota collectively transformed Wolves’ style of play. Having played Champions League football for Porto, the midfielder took the Championship by storm last season and he will be crucial for them in the Premier League as well.
Nuno built the team around Neves and he was the player who started most of the attacking moves for Wolves. In the manager’s 3-4-3 system, Wolves were a ball-dominating attacking side with wing-backs marauding from both flanks. And Neves was an important cog in that system as he recycled possession, prompted attacks and showed great maturity with his pin-point passing and crossing. Neves displayed great skill, vision and an astute understanding of the game which made him a firm fan-favourite.
Along with showcasing his creativity and invention, Neves also scored some spectacular goals for the West Midlands outfit.
Although he is predominantly a defensive midfielder, Neves is quite comfortable higher up the pitch and is never afraid to drive attacks. He also possesses a wicked delivery which saw him provide numerous assists last season.

Hence, to truly elevate the club’s performances and improve their chances of surviving in the Premier League, Neves is a necessity. At 21 years of age, he has a long way to go and yet, he already boasts of impeccable experience.
There has been a lot of speculation about his future but Wolves’ decision to offer him a new deal and Neves’ willingness to commit has changed everything. The talented midfielder would be a player to watch in the Premier League as Nuno’s Wolves look to make waves next season.
