Three players Derby County could target to replace Matej Vydra

Derby County finished 6th last season but narrowly failed to progress past the playoff, losing 2-1 on aggregate to Fulham. The club had an otherwise impressive campaign which saw a number of players display impressive performances on a consistent basis.

The Rams are buzzing after the appointment of new manager Frank Lampard and the former Chelsea captain must aim to take them back to the Premier League.

Last season’s top-scorer, Matej Vydra, is expected to leave the club. The Czech Republic striker scored a whopping 21 goals in the league to top the charts but the 26-year-old is reportedly on the brink of joining Leeds United for a fee in the region of £11 million.

Here, we take a look at three alternatives Lampard could target to replace Vydra.

Salomon Rondon (West Bromwich Albion)

West Bromwich were relegated from the Premier League last season after a disastrous campaign. The club finished at the bottom of the table and must play in the Championship next season.

However, Salomon Rondon was one of the Baggies’ few shining stars. The Venezuelan striker scored 7 goals and provided 3 assists in 32 appearances last season. He is known for his bullish approach, which makes him a nightmarish prospect for most defenders.

If Lampard chooses to pursue a deal for him, the striker will certainly replicate his good form for the Rams.

Jordan Ayew (Swansea City)

The Swansea striker scored 7 goals in 33 appearances for the Swans last season but his efforts were in vain as the club eventually got relegated to the Championship. Ayew is a menace in the box and has excellent dribbling abilities.

He’s got pace, power, energy and finesse, making him a deadly striker. The 26-year-old is also well-known for his work ethic and tireless runs. In fact, he was one of the Swans’ standout performers last season.

Hence, Lampard should certainly consider a move for Ayew this summer.

Tammy Abraham (Chelsea)

The striker enjoyed a decent spell on loan with Swansea last season. Despite spending time on the sidelines due to an injury, Abraham impressed whenever he was provided with a chance.

Tammy Abraham made a total of 15 appearances for the Welsh club last season, scoring 5 goals and providing 1 assist in that time. The 20-year-old is quite speedy and boasts of impressive finishing abilities as well. He has shown immense potential and growth over the last two seasons, making him a great choice for the Rams.
