Wolves 0-2 Chelsea: The Best And The Worst Rated Players From The FA Cup Tie

The Premier League leaders finally saw off their stubborn Championship opposition courtesy of their Spanish forwards, with goals in the second half of their quarter-finals encounter on Saturday. Pedro extended his fine goal-scoring run in the FA Cup and Diego Costa was also on target to help the Blues to a 2-0 victory at the Molineux stadium.

Wolverhampton Player Ratings

Carl Ikeme – 6/10- Was generally sharp off his line to clear long balls ahead of Costa; however he could do nothing to stop either of the Chelsea goals.

Matt Doherty- 7/10 – Solid presence in defence throughout the game. Also provided an attacking option on the left. Was unlucky to deflect the ball into the path of Costa for the second goal.

Danny Baath- 6/10- Battled well with Costa in the first half but couldn’t keep up the pressure in the second, although, it was a good performance overall from the center-back.

Kortney Hause- 7/10- The young defender was brilliant in all his physical battles and enjoyed the big stage, he also made some crucial interventions for his side when required.

George Saville-5/10- Should have given his side the lead, but his volley only managed to hit the post with a fierce left footed effort.

Helder Costa-5/10- Did not have a great game as he was involved only in a few small occasions, very unlike him, his manager would have wanted more from the midfielder.

Conor Coady-6/10- Offered his service on the right flank, but was disappointing with his crosses.

Jack Price-7/10- Was highly combative in the middle of the park, won the ball back for his side on several occasions and was an important player in the Wolves midfield.

David Edwards- 4/10- Full of energy through the game but allowed Pedro to run past him for the opener, therefore was at fault for the sake of his team, which made Chelsea dominate.

Andreas Weimann- Tracked back to cover the runs of Chelsea wing-back Moses, could probably have done a little bit better from Saville’s rebound off the post.

Jon Dadi Bodvarsson- 7/10- Always difficult when playing against Chelsea as a striker, but the forward could have done better with a header in the first half, he was also guilty of not being clinical in and around the box.

Substitutes

Romain Saiss- 5/10- Came on as a late sub and didn’t have much impact on the game.

Connor Ronan- 5/10- Another late sub that didn’t do too much to effect the outcome of the game.

Chelsea Player Ratings

Asmir Begovic- 6/10- Not entirely convincing when clearing the ball under pressure, but still was decent to keep a clean sheet.

Nathan Ake-6/10- Had a few problems early on in the game due to communication issues, but settled in well in the wing back position.

John Terry- 7/10- The Chelsea veteran was a strong presence at the back and offered very little space for Bodvarsson to work with in the final third.

Nathaniel Chalobah- 6/10- Had a quiet first half, but grew into the game as his side managed to gain control.

Kurt Zouma- 6/10- Same case as Chalobah, having a nervy start at first with his ball distribution but only improving on it in the second period.

Cesc Fabregas- 7/10- The Spanish midfielder was masterful in midfield, controlling the game as if he had a string on the ball. Always looked a threat with his accurate passing and skill.

Willian – 7/10- Was not an entirely convincing and clinical performance from the Brazilian as he wasn’t at his best in the attacking third, although managed a perfect cross for Pedro in the second half for the opener.

Eden Hazard-6/10- Far away from the usually dangerous attacker that we’ve come to see in the recent months, unable to control the game with his passing and movement. Found a little bit of his rhythm in the second period though.

Victor Moses-7/10- Looked extremely dangerous in the wing back area, although his crosses could have been slightly better, he always looked a threat for the Wolves’ defence.

Diego Costa-7/10- Had a tough battle with two physically strong centre backs and squandered a few opportunities, however, he got his goal to settle Chelsea’s nerves and secure the win for his team.

Substitutes

Cesar Azpilicuetta – 6/10- Was brought on to secure the lead in place of the goalscorer Pedro and did a good job defensively.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek- 6/10- Did not have a huge impact on the game, was a defensive switch.

N’golo Kante- 6/10 – Came on late just to see off his side through to the final whistle.
