Wolves landing this 26-year-old expert dribbler in the summer would be a terrific step by Nuno Santo

Wolves Opinion: Should Nuno make a move for Jesus Corona?

Wolverhampton Wanderers strengthened their hold on the seventh spot with a thoroughly professional 2-0 victory over Cardiff City on Saturday. Diogo Jota’s exquisite opener and Raul Jimenez’s 13th goal of the season maintained Wolves’ hopes of securing a Europa League place.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side stormed the Championship last season, racking up 99 points on their way to the title but it would still be an unbelievable achievement to finish in the top half of the Premier League on their return.

The club showed their ambition by spending big last summer, bringing in 11 players to the Molineux.

There are still nine games left for Wolves and with Watford prowling, twists and turns until the final game of the season are bound to happen in the Premier League. But the signs for Nuno’s team are positive and they remain top dog to finish 7th in the table.

After spending heftily last summer, the East Midlands outfit will have to follow the same pattern to challenge realistically for the Europa League trophy next season. Keeping that in mind, Nuno should make a move for FC Porto star Jesus Corona this summer.

Matt Doherty is an attack-minded wing-back who has been excellent for Wolves this season. Doherty has made the right wing-back position his own but he definitely needs competition next campaign to keep performing at the same level.

Jesus Corona would be the ideal player to provide competition and cover for Doherty as well as right wingers Adama Traore and Helder Costa.

Not only can he play as a wing-back but can also thrive in a more advanced role on the right. The Mexican has a goal and five assists for Porto this season, impressing with his skill, pace and passing range.

The 26-year-old is an expert dribbler and loves to take on his marker and beat him with his tricks and flicks. Corona is a two-footed player whose unpredictable movement in the final third and ability to find his man inside the box make him a super threat for the opposition defenders.

Verdict

Wolves have an array of attacking talent but the addition of Corona would give the team the ‘X’ factor going forward.

The Mexican trickster has taken time to find his mojo at Porto and having fired on all cylinders for the Portuguese champions this season, the summer transfer window could be the perfect time for Nuno to add the 26-year-old to his ranks.
