Crystal Palace Opinion: Should Crystal Palace sign Godfred Donsah?

One area that Crystal Palace do need to strengthen next summer is their midfield, especially given the fact that they only have four bonafide midfielders. James McArthur is 31 years old and has struggled to make an impact in recent months, with injuries and form playing a big role in his downfall.

Add that to Cheikhou Kouyate’s struggles and that leaves the club with just two first-team midfielders, Luka Milivojevic and Max Meyer. For a club trying to become a part of the top ten conversation, this shows a lack of depth and more so a lack of a box-to-box midfielder.

While that may not be a part of manager Roy Hodgson’s interest, the Eagles need to target Bologna star Godfred Donsah. Easily one of the most versatile midfielders in the bottom half of the Serie A table, Donsah has attracted attention from all over the world, thanks to the current state of his team.

At the moment, Bologna are in the relegation zone, four points from safety, with little to no chance of finding their way back in the near future. This could make it easy for Crystal Palace to get the player.

An all-action midfielder who can play anywhere in a midfield three, Donsah has everything at his disposal to become one of the best. Creative in the final third, brilliant defensively, and an engine to boast of, the 22-year-old can become a mainstay in the Crystal Palace team.

Add to that his work rate, superb tactical intelligence, and good passing accuracy going forward, few players in the world can do what Godfred Donsah does. But what is a weakness is the 22-year old’s mentality and consistency, which has affected him during his time at Bologna.

However, if there is one manager that can knock that out of the youngster, it’s Roy Hodgson. The oldest manager in the Premier League, the former England manager is great at man management, which will help Donsah improve.

Under Hodgson, Wilfried Zaha, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and a few others are showing marked signs of improvement.

But the Serie A giants are only offering rotation football and if Crystal Palace can convince the 22-year-old that his future lies in the Premier League, things could be different.
