Wolves plotting a move for this 26-year-old English dynamo would help Nuno pull one over PL rivals

Why Wolves should plot a January swoop for James Tarkowski

Back in June, a report from the Times had claimed Wolves made an enquiry for Burnley’s James Tarkowski but the club were reluctant to sell him during the summer transfer window.

James Tarkowski, 26, was in demand during the summer transfer window following his strong 2018/19 campaign with Burnley. In fact, he has been a consistent performer for the Clarets ever since signing from Brentford in 2016.

The England international has had a standout campaign so far this season and his defensive prowess has contributed to Sean Dyche’s side boasting one of the better defensive records in the division.

That being said, it’s very unlikely to see Dyche sell one of the most trusted members of his squad in January, yet Wolves must test Burnley’s resolve with a cheeky bid for the defender.

After back-to-back wins against Watford and then Manchester City, Wolves are off and running in their second Premier League campaign. Hopes are high this season from Wolves, who finished seventh last season following their promotion to the top-flight.

Prior to victories over Watford and Manchester City, the Wanderers were struggling in the bottom half of the table, which seemed initially as though the added exertions of the Europa League and the early start to the season due to qualifying was taking its toll on Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.

However, Nuno’s team now has garnered some momentum and will be looking to climb the table after the international break.

In midst of Wolves’ recent upturn in fortunes, Willy Boly has impressed a lot at the back. That has seen him catch Arsenal’s attention, with the north London giants willing to make a move for the Ivory Coast defender in January, claims the Sun.

Wolves would get a decent profit on the £10million they paid FC Porto and could double their money — but will try to keep Willy Boly. Should they decide to cash in on the Ivorian, Nuno must replace him with James Tarkowski.

More Wolves News

Tarkowski has been fantastic for Burnley in the Premier League. He has put in determined, strong and powerful performances in defence.

The Englishman’s ability to read the game and snuff out potential threats to his goal is an area where he really stands out. Someone who is also decent on the ball, Wolves should definitely take a look at the Manchester-born defender.

Verdict

There is no doubt that Tarkowski would bring a lot of physicality, experience and solidity to the Wolves backline. But the Midlands club will need to be ready to splash a lot of money to persuade Burnley into selling their star defender in January.
