Why Wolverhampton Wanderers would be the ideal destination for Stefano Sturaro

Cristiano Ronaldo shocked the footballing fraternity on Tuesday when he left Real Madrid for Juventus. Now that Juventus have acquired the services of the world’s best player, they may need to sell a few players to ensure they comply with Financial Fair Play, according to reports.

As evidenced by the situations facing Paris Saint Germain and AC Milan, UEFA are serious about Financial Fair Play regulations. Keeping that in mind, the Serie A champions cannot take a risk and will now look to offload some of the existing squad members, including Stefano Sturaro.

Sturaro has been at Juventus since 2014 but has failed to fulfil his potential which once likened him to AC Milan legend and current head coach Gennaro Gattuso. The 25-year-old midfielder has been heavily linked with Newcastle United this summer and according to his agent, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Southampton are also interested.

Sturaro has won four Serie A titles and four Coppa Italia crowns during his time at Juventus but has largely struggled to hold down a regular spot in the team. So it is high time the hard-tackling midfielder leaves Juventus for pastures new to fulfil his real potential. And a move to the Premier League would suit the midfielder’s style of play.

Premier League new boys Wolverhampton Wanderers must go all out to sign Sturaro from Juventus. Since their promotion back to the Premier League, Wolves have already made some exciting signings, landing Willy Boly, Rui Patricio, Leo Bonatini, and Ruben Vinagre whilst signing Raul Jimenez on loan from Benfica.

Sturaro has been far from a regular in Juventus’ midfield in recent seasons and made just 12 league appearances last season as he struggled to break into Massimiliano Allegri’s side ahead of the likes of Miralem Pjanic, Rodrigo Bentacur, Sami Khedira and Blaise Matuidi. However, the wealth of experience and pedigree he will bring to Molineux is second to nothing.

A box-to-box midfielder, Sturaro is a very good passer of the ball and he has the penchant of coming up with screamers. He is a workhorse, known for his defensive diligence, stamina, tenacity, composure, feistiness and ability to read the game. Due to the Italian’s wonderful range of passing and crossing abilities, he would complement Ruben Neves in the Wolves midfield.

A hard-tackling midfielder, Sturaro can also operate in defence due to his versatility. Strong, energetic and creative, the Italian would add a lot of steel to Wolves’ midfield. His development has somewhat stalled in the last couple of seasons at Juventus but he is just 25 and can reboot his career with a switch to the Premier League.

According to reports, Juventus are holding out for a figure in the region of €15million. In today’s age and market, that price will be considered as a steal for a player who is just 25 and boasts of top experience.

Sturaro could turn out to be a very smart signing for Nuno Espirito Santo’s Wolves.
