Why West Ham should complete the signing of Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi

Spirits are high at West Ham United after the arrival of Manuel Pellegrini as their new manager in the summer. West Ham didn’t have the best of seasons last term under managers Slaven Bilic and David Moyes, both of whom were eventually sacked.

With Pellegrini at the helm, the Hammers can hope for a better future. The former Real Madrid and Manchester City boss helped the Citizens to the Premier League in the 2013/14 season, thereby becoming the first manager from outside Europe to win the title.

Pellegrini has a respectable reputation in world football which means West Ham should be able to attract big stars to the club. West Ham were overly reliant on Marko Arnautovic fo goals last season but they are going to need more firepower this time around. The Hammers need to strengthen their forward line in the summer and Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi would be a good fit for them.

Despite scoring the title-winning goal against West Bromwich Albion in the 2016/17 campaign, the Belgian has failed to make his mark at Chelsea. He has thus far made 32 Premier League appearances for the Blues, scoring 7 goals and providing 2 assists. But he has never really been the first-choice striker at Chelsea.

Batshuayi played 12 league games for Chelsea last season, scoring 2 goals and providing 1 assist before moving to Borussia Dortmund on loan in the January transfer window. He was in superb form for the German giants as he netted 7 goals and set up one more in 10 Bundesliga matches.

Batshuayi, who is deadly in front of goal, also scored in Belgium’s 5-2 win over Tunisia at the World Cup last week.

Pellegrini should definitely sign the striker and make him West Ham’s focal point next season. His stocks are sure to rise if he enjoys a good World Cup campaign. So, Pellegrini should act fast and rope in the player at the earliest.
