Why West Ham Are A Bigger Club Than To Sign This Former Arsenal Star

West Ham United and their preparations for the next Premier League season seem to be going pretty well. The London side did make a great signing in Sofiane Feghouli, who came from Valencia but they seem to be looking at La Liga to sign a defender from the champions of Spain.

While West Ham might be one of the bigger clubs in England, they are linked with a move for Thomas Vermaelen, the player who made just 10 La Liga appearances for the side last season and one the season prior to that.

The fact that West Ham want to sign him doesn’t really make sense simply because the player is not fit enough to play and survive in the rigours of the Premier League. Vermaelen might have won a lot at Barcelona but he didn’t really have a lot to say about how the league went or even how the side played.

He even had a poor time in the European championship as Belgium were knocked out by Wales but more importantly, his time in the Premier League wasn’t the greatest and now with West Ham calling him back, it does seem a little desperate for the Hammers to try to sign the 30-year-old.

West Ham are now going at the right track and are set to play in the Europa League this season and if they can hold on to Dimitri Payet, they could actually end up doing a lot better than their last finish position in the Premier League.

The Hammers also have one of the best coaches in the Premier League with Slaven Bilic and while he might be able to turn Vermaelen’s career around but the Belgian is not the player that West Ham needs. The Hammers are going up and in the right track but bringing in a player that certainly is not on the right growth track might hurt the London team in the future.

Vermaelen left Arsenal to join Barcelona in hopes of winning a lot of titles and while West Ham might not win a lot this season, he is not the right man for the job. The Hammers have done brilliantly with players from South America and that should be where Slaven Bilic should look to in terms of shoring up the defence.

The club too are doing the right things in terms of bringing in the players that can take them to the next level. West Ham don’t need Vermaelen and who would have thought that this London club would be in a position to avoid the signing of Thomas Vermaelen?
