As per a report from The Sun, Watford star Richarlison is on the radar of Premier League powerhouse sides Manchester United and Chelsea.
A report from The Mirror later claimed that Jose Mourinho is keen to be at the forefront of the competition in the race to acquire the talented Brazilian’s signature. Richarlison has certainly enjoyed a decent debut campaign so far but is he the right choice for the Red Devils?
Regarded as one of the flagbearers of the new-age Samba boys, Richarlison made an almost instantaneous impact at Watford after joining them for £11.5m. His incisive runs and attacking threat coupled with goalscoring instincts have made him a firm fan favourite at the Vicarage Road.
He thrived under former Watford boss Marco Silva and the youngster’s sensational form made a lot of clubs sit up and take note. Richarlison’s potency and versatility proved to be phenomenal but as time wore on, things did change.
So far, he has managed to score 5 goals and provide 4 assists, which is not a bad return for a debut campaign. However, the player was unhappy at the sacking of Silva, as reported by Hertfordshire Mercury.
Since then, Richarlison has experienced a decline in form and has failed to reach his true potential under new manager Javi Gracia. Thus, if he is truly unhappy with the way things have turned out, Richarlison could be open to the prospect of an exit.
With interest from a side like Manchester United stemming, he could find it hard to refuse. However, if he is to thrive at Old Trafford and play regularly, Richarlison might have to say goodbye to his preferred left-wing position.
At present, United have several options for the left-wing area in the form of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Alexis Sanchez. However, they seem to have an opening on the right-wing.
Juan Mata has been the only United player to put up consistent performances in that area and that is a worrisome prospect for the club since the former Chelsea star is not a natural winger.
Thus, if Richarlison can forego playing on the left-wing and adapt to life on the opposite side, he could benefit by joining United. If not, it would make no sense for the club to buy yet another player for a position that is already overstaffed.
