Watford midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure is understood to have attracted attention from Tottenham Hotspur and a summer move could be on the cards. Although he is contracted to the Hornets until 2020, Mauricio Pochettino could look to tempt the 25-year-old with a lucrative deal and acquire his services. If he succeeds in doing so, there is absolutely no doubt that he will prove to be a valuable addition.
The Argentine manager has managed to strengthen his squad with the addition of Lucas Moura from PSG but in the next window, Spurs will be looking to prioritise signing a new midfielder. And to that end, Doucoure seems like a solid option. He has been one of Watford’s standout players throughout the season so far. Having scored 7 goals and provided 2 assists, he is undoubtedly an attractive option and Spurs must definitely try to get their hands on him while they can.
Doucoure can act as an alternative to Mousa Dembele at Tottenham. Their skills are very similar in the sense that both of them can offer a lot of attack force going forward from the midfield while also shielding the defence.
More than Dembele, Doucoure has been effective at sniffing out danger and breaking up the play in the middle of the field and that is something Pochettino is sure to admire. Moreover, Pochettino is known to appreciate raw talent over big names and Doucoure can go a long way under the manager’s guidance.
The fact that he will get to play in the Champions League will seem attractive for Doucoure. Given the way Tottenham have performed and improved in the last couple of years, this will be a golden opportunity for Doucoure to advance and develop his career further. In the grand scheme of things, the Mali star will also have a strong chance of acting as Dembele’s replacement.
So Tottenham must definitely try to convince the midfielder to join them. Spurs have had a decent season so far but if they were to sign Doucoure, his influence could rapidly improve their displays to give them a greater edge. His performances have been encouraging from what we have seen so far and he could prove to be a real bargain buy.
Spurs have a strong team at present but increasing squad depth in the middle of the park has to be prioritised over the summer, thereby making Doucoure the ideal player to target.
