Why Tottenham Should Drop Lamela In Favour Of This €110.8m Superstar

Share

Harry Kane (rated as €110.8 million by CIES football-observatory) is back in training for Tottenham and the great striker is going to be making a return to the field sooner than expected, which is an excellent news for Mauricio Pochettino’s team that’s currently struggling to score goals despite their outstanding performances.

Kane’s return would eventually send Vincent Janssen back to a smaller role, as the Dutch man hasn’t been able to get anything going in just under 30 minutes per game, scoring a lone goal from the penalty spot thanks to Christian Eriksen’s generosity.

However, this won’t be the only change that Pochettino’s side might present once their star returns from his ankle injury, as Heu-Ming Son should go back to playing near the sidelines instead of working as a false 9 as he’s been doing since the British striker went down with that nagging injury.

On top of that, you need to choose a player that has to be sacrificed in order to be able to let Harry Kane own a spot in the starting XI once again, and that won’t be an easy task for the Argentinian boss, as most of his players are actually having a great overall performance and it would be kind of unfair with practically everybody, but soccer ain’t about fairness, so what can you do about it?

When you look at the choices, the most logical would be to send his compatriot, Erik Lamela back to a bench role, as he’s arguably the “worst” player in an excellent offensive scheme that features him alongside Christian Eriksen, Heu Ming Son and the young star from England, Dele Alli.

Erik Lamela has been pretty good overall so far this season, making 10 appearances in 13 matches for Spurs while owning an average player rating of 7.1 in all competitions. The Argentinian is currently averaging more than 35 passes per game, completing 80% of his passes on an average. (stats from Squawka.com)

On top of that, Erik Lamela has already 3 assists so far and owns an average of 2.3 key passes per game, so you can tell he’s actually having a pretty decent season for the Yids despite only starting in 6 matches.

Besides, if you look at the Spurs bench, you won’t find many options in the attacking midfielder spot, so having Lamela available from the bench would provide a significant boost to a team that has what it takes to try and compete for the title, as they’ve shown by beating the almighty Pep Guardiola and his Manchester City.

The Spurs are one of the best teams in the league so far and once they’re back in full health, they can actually make a decent run in the UEFA Champions League. So having the left-footed 24-year-old providing help from the bench while easing some pressure from the starters is going to be a great thing for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
