Tottenham Hotspur have not made a single signing in the summer but the club are interested in making a late move for West Bromwich Albion striker Jay Rodriguez. (Burnley Express)
Mauricio Pochettino is known to rely on the crop of players at hand instead of making significant changes.
But the manager is going to have to make at least one signing to bolster the attack. Rodriguez would prove to be a great addition in this case. The striker is Premier League-proven and a born goalscorer. For far too long, Spurs have been largely reliant on star striker Harry Kane. The England captain is definitely one of the best strikers in the league but has no real cover to support him.
Tottenham Hotspur visibly struggled to score goals last season when Kane wasn’t fit to start. The Lilywhites signed Fernando Llorente from Swansea city but the Spaniard has failed to live up to the expectations.
Rodriguez was one of the Baggies’ top performers last season despite a dismal campaign that saw the club drop to the Championship. The 29-year-old made a total of 37 Premier League appearances for the Baggies last season, scoring 7 goals and providing 1 assist. He also racked up 3 goals in 3 FA Cup appearances.
The former Southampton man played some of his best football under Mauricio Pochettino during their time together at the St. Mary’s. A reunion would surely prove to be successful, as the Argentine coach has played a crucial role in Rodriguez’s rise to prominence.
The striker is also a versatile player and is comfortable playing in a number of roles up front. He can play on the flanks too. This makes him a very tasty option for Mauricio Pochettino because Rodriguez would offer cover in almost all positions high up the field.
He would thrive in a role behind Harry Kane and the England captain would certainly benefit from his supply. Spurs have often resorted to deploying Son as a second striker but that hasn’t proved to be successful.

With Jay Rodriguez’s arrival, Pochettino will have an able deputy to cover Harry Kane. It’s important to hold onto the club’s top performers, and while Spurs have definitely done that, they have failed to add to their ranks. Pochettino must certainly complete a move for the striker or it will cost Tottenhan their season once again.
