Why This Algerian Star Should Avoid Barcelona And Sign For A Club Like Arsenal Instead?

Share

Out of the many players who were influential in helping Leicester City shockingly win the Premier League title last season, Riyad Mahrez was right there at the top. The 25-year-old winger made 39 appearances in total for the Foxes in the previous campaign and netted 18 goals with 11 assists to his name as well. The Algerian international was instrumental in helping Claudio Ranieri’s side achieve success last term, as he was an integral part of the playing eleven and did not miss too much action.

After such an impressive year behind him, the attacker was wanted by La Liga champions Barcelona, who were ready to pay £15m for him, along with Leicester’s domestic rivals Arsenal too.

Now the question arises which club should the talented superstar pick if he eventually decides to leave the KP Stadium in the current transfer window, with the choices that he will have.

One thing the winger should remember that the former Le Havre man should remember that not ever player is a “Luis Suarez” and that the Catalan giants have a number of top stars amongst their ranks.

A player like Alexis Sanchez was not given enough chances to showcase his talent at the Camp Nou, during his time in Spain and the Chile international eventually moved to the Emirates, for regular action.

Why would Mahrez do any better than Sanchez, who is himself a world-class player and works harder than most stars? The Algerian play-maker will not be able to replace the likes of Luis Suarez, Lionel Messi or Neymar in the Barca starting eleven, despite his skill and will  have to only play second fiddle to them.

Will it be worth making the move away from England and playing such a role? Definitely not. Instead, the attack-minded superstar should rather go to a team where he will be the first choice star or has a more realistic chance of playing more regular football.

The Gunners are one club that can probably offer him that in the upcoming campaign, as they have always been strong admirers of quality football and manager Arsene Wenger is in need of more attacking options, to provide him goals.

If the player has fixed his mind on a move, then it would be really advisable for him to move to another club in the top flight of English football, rather travel all the way to a new country and make a fool of himself.

Yes, he might win some titles over the years eventually. However, will such a title win be worth it? Hell No. I honestly believe that a player of Mahrez’s caliber deserves to be on the pitch rather than on the sidelines, just watching his team-mates play, which he has already shown last term.

What happens next will be his personal choice, though we can only hope that the man who helped his side achieve something special last season, will do the right thing once again!!
