Why Juventus’ Kwadwo Asamoah Would Be A Perfect Signing For Chelsea

According to Italian newspaper Tuttosport (h/t The Sun), Chelsea have joined Inter Milan in the race to sign Juventus wing-back Kwadwo Asamoah.

The Ghanaian will become a free agent at the end of the season after he snubbed a new contract to stay at Juventus.

The report adds that Chelsea have emerged as serious contenders for Asamoah’s signature but what will the 29-year-old bring to the table?

First and foremost, every club loves the idea of signing a seasoned campaigner of high quality for free. Asamoah is one of them, having gained a lot of experience playing in the Serie A with a proven track record of winning trophies.

Having signed for Juventus in 2012 from Udinese, Asamoah has won 5 Serie A titles, 3 Super Coppa Italiana and 3 Coppa Italia. This shows that the 29-year-old has won a lot playing for one of the biggest clubs across Europe.

The Ghanaian’s versatility adds more value as he is capable of playing at left wing-back, left midfield and as a central attacking midfielder. He is a dynamic player but more refined in possession and defensively solid.

With blistering pace and agility, Asamoah is capable of beating defenders and creating chances for his teammates with through balls and deliveries into the box from the wing. The 29-year-old is primarily known for his aggressive approach to the game, vision, power, technical qualities as well as his ability to read games.

An explosive player, Asamoah tends to keep things simple and is a neat passer of the ball. He has good dribbling skills and a venomous left foot. Despite blessed with so many attributes, the 29-year-old is injury-prone.

Chelsea would enjoy the tantalising qualities of Asamoah, who is at the peak of his career. Asamoah was signed by Antonio Conte as the manager of Juventus then in 2012 and thus, clearly knows the player in and out. The Ghanaian would bring a lot of experience and pedigree to the current Chelsea side and his ability to play anywhere on the pitch would simply be a boon.

Asamoah has found his game time limited this season and maybe that is one of the reasons why he is reluctant to extend his deal with Juventus. However, Juventus’ loss could be Chelsea’s gain as he is exactly the type of player missing from Conte’s starting XI.
