According to a report by the Birmingham Mail, Wolverhampton Wanderers are interested in a summer swoop for Leeds United goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell.
Having secured an automatic promotion to the English top-flight, Nuno Espirito Santo must bolster his forces ahead of the new season. Wolves might have dominated the Championship last season but the Premier League will be anything but a cakewalk.
In order to compete with the big boys, Santo must invest wisely. And it looks like Peacock-Farrell is a prime target for the club.
The report further claims that Wolves are eyeing a £4m deal for the talented 21-year-old. While Leeds crumbled and failed to secure a playoff spot last season, the young goalkeeper impressed with his performances between the sticks.
Blessed with lightning-fast reflexes and a brilliant understanding of the game, Peacock-Farrell possesses excellent shot-stopping abilities. His performances for Leeds were enough to showcase his potential and it would make sense for Wolves to sign him.
To be fair, the West Midlands outfit already have a brilliant goalkeeper in their ranks – John Ruddy. The former Norwich City man played a key role for the Wolves as he put in some fine performances between the sticks to aid the club’s title-winning campaign.
At 31 years of age, he does boast of an ample amount of experience but given the fast-paced nature of the Premier League, the club might need a backup. While they have Will Norris as their second-choice keeper, a dynamic starlet like Peacock-Farrell could prove to be an upgrade.
Furthermore, Leeds are in an incredibly unsteady place right now. The sacking of Paul Heckingbottom has left them without a manager for the time being. And regardless of who they appoint, it goes without saying that the club are currently on a downward spiral.
In such a situation, the opportunity to move to a Premier League outfit should sound enticing for Peacock-Farrell as it would provide him with the opportunity to compete at the highest level.
However, it must be noted that the goalkeeper might have to forego the prospect of regular game time. It is unlikely for Nuno to immediately deploy him as the first-choice goalkeeper but the youngster could certainly fight to be the second-choice between the sticks at Molineux.
