Why West Ham Need To Get Rid Of Robert Snodgrass

West Ham United endured a rather erratic season as they failed to finish in the top half of the Premier League table. Slaven Bilic is lucky to keep his job at the club and he is now desperately looking to improve the options in the squad this summer. This might also mean that he will let go of players who have failed to have an impact on the squad and one such player now linked with an exit is Robert Snodgrass.

According to reports from the Telegraph, newly promoted club Brighton & Hove Albion and relegated side Sunderland are both keen on his services and are ready to pay £8m for his services this summer. So should Bilic let him leave?

The 29-year old Glasgow-born playmaker has been plying his trade in the English domestic scene since 2008, when he joined Leeds United. He went on to play for Norwich City, then Hull City, helping the Tigers to a place in the top flight a couple of years ago.

However, he was snapped up by Bilic at the start of the year in the winter transfer window, as the manager was expecting him to add some creativity to an injury-hit lineup at the London stadium in the second half of the previous season.

But with just 2 assists to show for in 15 league appearances for the Hammers, the 29-year old has failed to establish himself in the capital city and is yet again wanted by clubs at the lower half of the table. West Ham spent £10.2m on his services and letting him go for £8m is not too bad a business for the club, especially because of the age of the player.

The Scottish international is not too far away from completing his prime as a footballer and his time at the club last season showed that he is not what West Ham need in their attack.

Snodgrass is versatile and can play in more than one position in the attack. He has the ability to score and create goals consistently but needs a system that plays to his strengths, which was not the case in the second half of the previous season.

Bilic will surely look to add more than one attacker to his lineup to try and help his side compete next season and he will have to reduce the wage burden and make some space in the squad for his new signings and Snodgrass will surely be one of the first players that Bilic might want to get rid of this summer. He was nothing more than a panic buy in January.

Do you think West Ham should give the experienced playmaker another chance next season?
