Why Rangers’ Josh Windass Could Prove To Be A Very Good Piece Of Business For Hull City

According to reports from Scottish outlet Daily Record, EFL Championship side Hull City are eyeing a move for Rangers midfielder Josh Windass in the January transfer window.

The Tigers are languishing at 21st place in the English second division, with 25 points from 28 games. With the threat of relegation looming large upon them, manager Nigel Adkins is keen on bringing in some new faces into the squad to try and elevate his club’s position in the table.

The Hull City boss was spotted in the audience earlier this week when Rangers defeated rivals Aberdeen 2-0 and it is believed that Adkins was present there to get a close look on Windass before making a move for the player.

The 24-year-old has close ties with Hull City, given that his father, Dean, is a legend at the club, currently serving as the ambassador for the Tigers. Adkins is keen on using these ties to bring Josh Windass to the club before the end of the winter transfer window.

Born in Hull, Windass first came into prominence with Accrington Stanley in the League Two, where he made 86 appearances, scoring 23 goals and registering 13 assists, before being snapped up by Rangers in the summer of 2016. He did not have the best of the debut seasons for the Gers, as he managed a solitary goal and 5 assists in 27 games across all competitions.

However, this season, Windass has turned it on for the Light Blues and has grown into a very important player for Graeme Murty’s side. So far in the 2017/18 campaign, the 24-year old has contributed 6 goals and 6 assists in 21 Scottish Premiership appearances, helping Rangers to 2nd place in the table.

The 24-year old is an extremely versatile operator, who can play in almost any position in the attacking third. This season, Windass has mostly been used on the left flank by Rangers but he is equally capable of slotting in as a No.10 or even operating as an auxiliary forward in a 4-4-2 system as well. His versatility coupled with the eye for goal that he has shown this season makes him a very attractive prospect for Hull.

The Tigers have been heavily reliant on the likes of Kamil Grosicki and Jarred Bowen to deliver the goods week in week out and could definitely use another goal-scoring midfielder, who can also provide a lot of options to the manager with his ability to shift positions with consummate ease.

Windass has grown into an important player at the Ibrox this season and it will be difficult for the Tigers to pry him away midway through the season. But given his ties to the club, a return to his homeland could appeal to the midfielder and if signed, he could prove to be a very good piece of business for Hull.
