Why Tottenham Hotspur must reignite their interest in Ante Rebic

According to the Sun, Tottenham Hotspur were interested in signing Ante Rebic in the summer. But the move never materialised and Rebic stayed put at Eintracht Frankfurt.

Rebic, 25, was excellent for Croatia at the FIFA World Cup, playing a crucial role as they made their way to the final of the glitz and glamour tournament, only to lose 4-2 to France. Following his displays in Russia, the forward garnered a lot of attention but Frankfurt decided not to sell the player in the summer.

In fact, Rebic was on loan at Frankfurt from Fiorentina last term, with the German club deciding to exercise their option to purchase him outright after the Croatian scored six goals in 25 Bundesliga appearances. Now that he has started the new season well with three goals and an assist, should Tottenham reignite their interest in Rebic?

Mauricio Pochettino failed to sign a single player for Tottenham in the summer but he must definitely get a couple of deals done once the transfer window reopens. Tottenham have a fantastic squad capable of beating any team on their day but the problem lies in the lack of quality on the bench.

When it comes to changing a course of the game, Pochettino has often lacked a plan B or a player who could give the team a different edge to their attack.

In that case, Spurs could do well with the signing of Rebic from Frankfurt. The Lilywhites have a wealth of attacking players but Rebic could provide the team with a distinctive dimension to their play in the final third. Typically stationed on the right flank, Rebic is an explosive, agile and aggressive player who can physically bully defenders.

The Croat is a technically gifted, skilful attacker who is capable of producing moments of magic, just like he did in the World Cup by netting a thunderous volley in the 3-0 victory over Argentina.

Rebic is industrious, direct, physical and is a shrewd player who has the tendency to lose his calm on the pitch at times. Nevertheless, he is a quality player and would give Tottenham a new option in the attack.

Also, the Croatian’s versatility means he would be a useful acquisition for Tottenham, as Rebic can play through the middle, as a secondary striker and on either flank.

At 25, Rebic is at the perfect age and can only get better at Tottenham under the watchful eyes of Pochettino.
