Why offloading Daniel Amartey would be a good move by Leicester

According to Leicester Mercury, as many as three players including Ghanaian star Daniel Amartey could be shown the exit door when the transfer window reopens in January, hinted Leicester City’s new manager Brendan Rodgers.

For Leicester, who sit third in the Premier League table, it has been an eventful journey with 20 points from 10 games, just two behind defending champions Manchester City. With six wins, two draws and two losses, the Foxes have kick-started their campaign in style.

Defender Amartey, unfortunately, does not fit into the former Liverpool manager’s plans as he is surplus to requirements at the club. With the Irishman making it clear with his selections that defenders Jonny Evans, Caglar Soyancu and Wes Morgan are his first-choice defenders, the Ghanaian is way down the pecking order in a squad filled with centre-backs such as the young Filip Benkovic.

Being one of the club’s top priorities to either be loaned or permanently transferred, lets us look closely as to how it could prove to be a beneficial one for the Foxes.

Attacking brand of football

With the arrivals of Youri Tielemans and Dennis Praet and youngsters such as Hamza Choudhury, it is no secret that the Leicester manager has opted for a more attacking brand of football compared to his predecessor Claude Puel.

Amartey, who has also been tested in the defensive midfield role earlier, has hit a dead end, with Wilfred Ndidi cementing his spot as a first-team regular. Moreover, Ndidi is the one who acts as a glue keeping this high-flying Foxes side together.

Only gain

For Leicester, it very well seems like a better option to let the player go out permanently than stay on and be loaned out. The players have gelled quickly and there seems to be a rapport in the squad, which is evident from their recent performances, especially the 9-0 thrashing of Southampton.

Greener pastures

With Amartey’s sale, Leicester board and administration can be happy as it would only add more weight to their purse. A young defender like him would easily be a target for many other clubs in the English top-tier looking to build a more balanced squad.

The move would also do the world of good for the Black Stars defender as he can look for greener pastures, where his services would be more valued and needed.

Lack of games

One of the major reasons Leicester could benefit from this deal is the fact that Amartey has been out of action for more than a year and it may have affected the player’s morale and confidence.

With their scintillating run of form in the league, such a mindset could only worsen the mood in the camp and therefore is not at all a welcome change.
