Why Newcastle Over Leicester City Would Be A Better Destination For Tom Cairney

Fulham have been in the news for all the right reasons lately. The club have managed to spark a remarkable late resurgence and now are one of the favourites to secure a promotion to the top-flight. However, there is one player of theirs who has stood out (not Ryan Sessegnon), earning praises from fans and critics alike.

Tom Cairney, the club’s midfield maestro, has worked his magic for the Championship outfit and has played a key role in getting them to where they are today.

His performances have deservedly attracted attention from the Premier League and as per a report from The Sun, Newcastle United and Leicester City are both keen on signing him this summer. To be fair, a player like Cairney could prove to be a massive advantage for either of these two clubs.

Based on his performances alone, it is quite clear that he deserves to play in the Premier League. However, when it comes to requirement, Newcastle need him more than Leicester.

Tom Cairney

At present, there is no dearth of creativity in the Foxes midfield. They have Riyad Mahrez, Marc Albrighton, Demarai Gray, Shinji Okazaki and they also have the likes of Wilfred Ndidi and Vincente Iborra.

Hence, it might be tough for Cairney to secure regular game time at the King Power Stadium, which makes Newcastle a better destination than Leicester. Rafa Benitez has changed a lot of things at the club but it is evident that they still need an out-and-out creative player.

Cairney operates in a deeper role at Fulham but he thrives while surging forward to display his creativity. In fact, one might even call him the ideal central midfielder given his capabilities to attack and defend with equal flair.

However, he is an attacking midfielder by trade and he could work wonders for a club like Newcastle, who have been facing an alarming lack of creativity this season.

If he were to join Newcastle, Benitez can utilise him in two roles – either to disrupt the opponents from getting forward or to play as a true-blue attacking midfielder. At 27 years of age, Cairney is the ultimate blend of experience and skill. He could become an influential leader in the midfield area for the Magpies next season.
