Why Marcus Maddison to West Brom would be a good move

According to Birmingham Live, West Bromwich Albion have been credited with an interest in Peterborough United forward Marcus Maddison.

Maddison, 26, came through the ranks of Newcastle United’s academy and has featured for several English teams before joining Peterborough United in 2014. Though he struggled initially at the ABAX Stadium, he has been in fine form this season.

The attacker has scored 9 goals and further assisted 6 times in 18 League One games so far. He has been in red-hot form since the start and is a consistent member of Darren Ferguson’s squad.

His numbers have been better than that of the past few seasons and he has helped the Posh in chasing promotion to the Championship.

His excellent displays have caught the eyes of several other second-tier clubs like Derby, Brentford and Bristol City, according to the report.

On the other hand, Slaven Bilic’s side are atop the Championship table and are 3 points ahead of Leeds United with the hopes of getting promoted to the Premier League for the next season.

West Brom haven’t lost any of their last 12 games in all competitions and are carrying on with their fine performance under Bilic. The Croatian missed the chance to guide his team to the top flight at the end of last season after they finished 4th in the previous campaign.

Therefore, according to Birmingham Live, the Baggies are expected to conduct business in January in order to see a change in their fortunes as they hope to execute their plan in the right way.

There are issues with certain players over their future at the Hawthorns as they have been enjoying success with a lot of players who are on loan. Grady Diangana, Matheus Pereira, Chris Willock, and Filip Krovinovic may all return to their respective teams after completing their loan spell.

By that time, Bilic would be left with very few forwards at his disposal. Therefore, it would be good for the Baggies if they get manage to grasp Marcus Maddison, whose contract with the Posh is also set to expire at the end of this season.

The Durham-born attacking midfielder is known for his versatility as he has been brilliant on either flank too, apart from being a playmaker. While playing on the left he has whipped in a number of crosses for his teammates to finish and on the right, he has become more of a goal threat.

This would be an added bonus for Bilic and with a player who can perform from anywhere on the pitch, the quality and depth of the squad would improve. Maddison is a technically gifted player in the League One and it would be the right time for him to take his game to a higher level.

The 26-year-old could be a big hit in the Championship, playing alongside Romaine Sawyers, Matt Phillips and Hal Robson-Kanu at West Brom. He would add more firepower to their ranks and can guarantee a lot of goals.

Verdict

Given his impressive record this season, West Brom must not hesitate to sign him for £2.5m in January as he can guide them to greater heights in the future.
