According to a report in the Metro, Manchester United have been linked with a move for Tottenham Hotspur’s Lucas Moura. The Brazilian has made a resurgence since his move to North London after being seen as surplus to requirements at Paris Saint-Germain.
He was signed in January 2018 and made a very slow start. However, he had a big hand in some of the outstanding performance that Spurs had in the big games last season en route to the Champions League final.
He provided 15 goals and 2 assists last season in all competitions and what really stood out was his work-rate and direct running, which was a real problem for a lot of teams facing Spurs. However, he wouldn’t really add anything to this current United side.
United already have players like Marcus Rashford and Daniel James, who provide a similar type of threat. What they really need are some creative players and a player who can hold it up and finish chances in the penalty box.
Lucas Moura is a fantastic player but he isn’t what United currently need as he doesn’t offer any of the qualities mentioned above. He would also be in the way of some of the development of the players mentioned and this would be another case of a luxury signing without any planning.
Manchester United already have already made a lot of questionable recruitments since Sir Alex Ferguson retired and they’ve come to a point where they can no longer do the same.
For all of their difficulties at the start of the season, they’ve gone onto make the right signings after a long time.
However, they definitely need a lot more and they need to start getting on their way to filling the next set of gaps. Lucas Moura would be another mistake waiting to happen as we’ve seen so often in recent times and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer cannot afford to make such choices in recruitment.
United have a long season ahead with a game against Arsenal next week. They’ll need all the help they can get in what will be a massive game for both sides.
