According to Spanish publication Don Balon, Manchester United are willing to pay Real Madrid’s sensation Marco Asensio €2million more than his current wages to bring him over to Old Trafford in the summer.
The 23-year-old has been struggling for game time since the departure of Zinedine Zidane in the summer, having started just 13 games in the La Liga this season. The report has revealed that the Red Devils are prepared to offer as high as €80million for the Spaniard in the summer window.
Ole Gunnar Solksjaer’s unbeaten start as United boss came to an end at the hands of Arsenal on Sunday. The defeat highlighted their need for wide attacking threat, with Anthony Martial starting on the bench.
Alexis Sanchez’s dream move to Old Trafford has been a miserable failure and Marco Asensio will be an incredible replacement for the Chilean who has scored just 3 goals in the Premier League in over a year.
Asensio, despite not being a regular under Santiago Solari, has scored and assisted a combined 11 goals. The attacker has been very impressive whenever he has played for the Los Blancos this season but the lack of game time has pushed him away from the club.
A versatile midfielder, Asensio has the ability to play anywhere in the midfield, be it through the middle or out wide. His addition to the United squad will open up a number of possibilities for Ole Gunnar Solksjaer.
Asensio can play as a number 10 in the United squad ahead of Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic. The Spaniard can also be accommodated out wide on either side, which gives the United boss the option of playing both Lukaku and Rashford up front.
Asensio wouldn’t be fazed by the pressure of being a star at Manchester United, having played over 200 games already for club and country at just 23 years of age.
The Spaniard will also bring a winning mentality to Old Trafford as he has won two Champions League titles with Real Madrid over the last two years.
The 23-year-old’s pace and skill on the ball will be a massive hit in the Premier League and his ability to take on players and create something out of nothing will surely build up the excitement in the Old Trafford faithful.
