According to Calciomercato (h/t Daily Mail), Juventus have asked £4.5m for Mario Mandzukic for Mario Mandzukic.
Mandzukic is yet to feature in any match this season. Old Lady manager Maurizio Sarri, who managed Chelsea last season, has also excluded the 33-year-old from Juventus’ Champions League squad.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer failed to sign a replacement for Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez, who both joined Inter Milan at the beginning of the season. Solskjaer backed academy youngster Mason Greenwood to step in the hour of need but the 18-year-old is yet to get his first Premier League start.
Keeping Greenwood on the bench during Martial’s injury and Marcus Rashford’s lack of fitness shows the Norwegian manager’s lack of confidence in the 18-year-old.
It looks like Greenwood will need more time to develop the skills to play in the Premier League. In such situations, bring in Mandzukic will be a smart move regardless of the money demanded by the Old Lady.
Even though Mandzukic is yet to play in the English top-flight, the 33-year-old has proved his worth by playing for top clubs from Bundesliga (Bayern Munich), La Liga (Atletico Madrid) and the Serie A.
Mandzukic has vast experience and hence he should be able to quickly adapt to the Premier League.
He found the back of the net 9 times and provided 6 assists in just 25 Serie A appearances last season. His ample amount of experience in the Champions League will also be valuable to the young Man United side during the knock out stages of the Europa League.
Even though Mandzukic is not a long-time solution for the Red Devils, he might just be the man to boost United’s fortunes this season. He has the ability to step up in the hour of need. He will also be a threat in the air and United can even use him as their super substitute.
