Manchester City opinion: Should Guardiola go for Max Aarons

When Pep Guardiola first arrived at Manchester City, he had inherited a team that had an ageing core with an average age of around 27. Since then, the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss has spent heavily but spent it on the right areas.

The addition of John Stones, Kyle Walker, Bernardo Silva, Ederson, Gabriel Jesus and many more has been perfect for the club. However, at the same time, there have been a few issues, with Danilo and Claudio Bravo struggling to make an impact.

A talented Benjamin Mendy has suffered from multiple season-ending injuries. This has caused a few problems and yet, without their main left-back, the Cityzens won the Premier League title last season.

The rise of Liverpool as genuine title challengers has seen Manchester City struggle a little bit but at the same time, it’s seen the club prepare for the future.

Youngsters Philippe Sandler, Phil Foden and Oleksandr Zinchenko have seen their game time improve, and the Bristol Live (h/t Teamtalk) has reported that the club have been linked with a move for Max Aarons.

The Norwich City star has been a revelation this season after being given a chance at the start of the season. Since then, Aarons has played in every Championship game for the club, missing out only in the FA Cup and the EFL Cup.

In total, the 19-year-old has played 32 games for the club this season alone and though he has matured, there is a lot of scope for improvement.

Aaron’s speed and agility make him a very useful tool to have going forward but it’s the defensive side of his game that the young full-back needs to improve.

As a full-back and especially for Manchester City, the teenager will have to step up his game to be able to match first-team star Kyle Walker.

That isn’t to say that Max Aarons will be a bad acquisition but the starlet has to improve before he can do well in the Premier League. He has time on his side to improve and given his rise this season, Aarons has shown that he is more than capable of becoming better.

Conclusion

What could complicate things for Manchester City is the fact that Tottenham, Arsenal and Chelsea are in the race (Mirror). However, Manchester City have a history of spending as much as it takes to get their man and they should be able to come out on top in this race (ESPN).

Tom Landry once said "Football is an incredible game. Sometimes it's so incredible, it's unbelievable." Football is and always will be the beautiful game. What every child understands, yet every adult struggles to, is that it is a game that defines the nature of the universe. But that's just me.
