Why Manchester City Would Do Well To Dodge A Swap Deal Involving Aguero and Griezmann

Pep Guardiola is planning a new project with Atletico Madrid to swap both their number one strikers, Sergio Aguero and Antoine Griezmann. While the Atletico Madrid number 7 wants to leave and start afresh due to their struggles, Pep is a huge fan of the Frenchman and has reportedly asked Aguero if he wants to return to his former club.

The move is under process and seems to be going in a positive direction. While the Argentine spearhead is a preserved gem for the Manchester-based club, the to-be swapped forward is wanted by almost all European giants.

Is It Ideal For Manchester City?

One can certainly have mixed feelings about this deal. Aguero has been a fan favourite for the current PL leaders for a long long time now and has been a loyal servant since joining the club. He has won various trophies with the Cityzens and shares the best of memories with the coaches, fans, teammates and staff, especially the last-gasp winner against QPR to snatch the title from Manchester United’s hands on the final matchday of the 2011/12 season. He is easily one of the best strikers in the game and an absolute machine.

Antoine Griezmann

Hands down, Aguero is the best striker in the Premier League, miles ahead of the likes of Romelu Lukaku or Alexandre Lacazette. He is one striker who scores a minimum of 25 goals every season (he’s done it 5 times in the past 6 seasons). When compared to Kane, Aguero shows more consistency despite having been plagued by minor injuries. The Argentine is the best dribbler amongst the No. 9s in the league.

Both these players have the undoubted ability and are complete forwards. They are right up there with the likes of Harry Kane, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Robert Lewandowski and Luis Suarez and have excellent instincts, awareness and finishing capabilities. They can both hold the ball well, get past players with ease, use their feet to good effect, strike the ball from distance, cut inside or kill the opponent on the counter.

The deal can be considered fair and beneficial for Manchester City in terms of the players’ ages. The record scorer for Manchester City is 29 years old and has a good couple of years ahead of him. But on the other hand, Griezmann is just 26 and has his best years left in him. But on an overall note, Kun Aguero is a world-class player and may stay at City along with Gabriel Jesus, who is a real prospect. Hence, the deal is not required for the Premier League champions-elect.
