Manchester United opinion – Red Devils should offload Marcos Rojo

According to a report in the Sun, Manchester United have allowed centre-back Marcos Rojo to train with his former club Estudiantes in Argentina. The 29-year-old has made just three appearances this season, with none of them coming under caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The defender is currently working on his fitness in South America, where he would be aiming to get back to be in the best possible shape possible to play top-flight football (h/t Sun).

At this moment, Rojo has two years remaining on his contract, with United having an option to extend that by a year. He was linked (h/t the Sun) with a move to Everton, but a wage of around £100,000-a-week may have put off the Toffees.

Marcos Rojo

Having not featured under Solskjaer, here’s why Manchester United should do the right thing and put Marcos Rojo on sale in the summer transfer window:

United need more quality at the back

Marcos Rojo is a quality defender who has the talent to be a star at the back for Manchester United. However, injuries haven’t helped his cause, especially in the last year or so.

He has played 53 games since the start of last season, meaning the Argentine cannot be in the manager’s plans for a regular spot in the team. As a result of that, the centre-back is not able to get into the rhythm.

Hence, since Solskjaer arrived, Rojo hasn’t even played a game for United. The caretaker boss is playing with Chris Smalling and Victor Lindelof as his first-choice pairing, with Eric Bailly and Phil Jones around the corner.

So all in all, it would make sense from the club’s viewpoint that they put the Argentine centre-back on sale in the summer window, lighten the wage bill to an extent and look to buy another centre-back who can play games on a consistent basis and form a solid partnership at the back.

Conclusion

Rojo, who was signed by the Red Devils for £16m, is a good player who has been unlucky with injuries. On the other hand, Manchester United cannot have a player who isn’t able to contribute to the team as much as expected.

Therefore, putting the Argentine on the sale list becomes a viable option.
