According to a report in Leicestershire Mercury, Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers will hold talks with Andy King over the midfielder’s future at the club.
The Foxes’ longest-serving player, who was also the part of their miraculous title-winning squad, is currently suffering from an ankle injury that cut-short his loan spell at Derby County.
There is a suggestion that with Rodgers arriving after the Welshman’s departure to Derby, the latter could have a future here at the King Power Stadium. (h/t Leicester Mercury)
But the former Celtic manager wants to know what the 30-year-old prefers before making the final decision. (h/t Leicester Mercury) The midfielder’s contract expires at the end of next season, meaning he would enter the final 12 months of his stay in the summer if an extension is not agreed.
Here’s why Leicester would be better of putting Andy King on sale in the summer and not offer a new contract:
If we look at the current Leicester team, they have got some exciting and talented midfielders in their armoury. The likes of Youri Tielemans, Wilfried Ndidi, Nampalys Mendy are pretty good in the middle of the park.
Add James Maddison to the equation, who can play that number 10 role, just ahead of the defensive midfield and behind the striker, it forms quite a talented quartet.
The common thing about these four players is that all of them are less than 27 years old. It means the peak years of their footballing career is yet to come.
Furthermore, as a manager, we know that Brendan Rodgers prefers to work with talented young players. He would love that with the four central and attacking midfield options in the disposal.
On the other hand, Andy King hasn’t played much for Leicester in the past 12-18 months, as he has been on loan to Swansea and Derby. He is currently injured and it wouldn’t be easy for him to come in and settle into the new system under Rodgers.

Hence, everything points towards the conclusion that Leicester can afford to let go of Andy King. Instead, they must concentrate on making Tielemans’ stay permanent.
