Back in July 2018, the Bristol Post had claimed that Leeds United were interested in signing Mohamed Eisa, who was then plying his trade for Cheltenham Town. However, a move to Leeds didn’t materialise and he ended up joining Bristol City in the summer of 2018.
A move to Bristol City didn’t pan out the way Mohamed Eisa would have imagined and after managing just five appearances in the entire 2018/19 campaign, he moved to Peterborough United in League One this past summer.
The 25-year-old has enjoyed an excellent campaign with Peterborough United so far, racking up 13 goals in 21 league games. As the striker continues to impress for the Posh, should Leeds United rekindle their interest in the Sudanese when the transfer window reopens?
Without a second thought, yes! The Athletic’s Phil Hay has revealed that Arsenal are planning to recall Eddie Nketiah from his loan spell at Leeds United.
He has stated that sources close to the young striker have claimed that Arsenal are ready to bring him back to the Emirates and loan him out to another club for the remainder of the season. And, Leeds are likely to move for another forward if Nketiah does get recalled by the Gunners.
Marcelo Bielsa has often persisted with Patrick Bamford as the lone striker in his 4-1-4-1 formation. This has meant that Nketiah has failed to start for the Whites this season in the Championship, making all of his fourteen league appearances for the club as a substitute.
If Nketiah moves back to Arsenal, Bielsa will have no back-up for Bamford, who has been in really good form of late.
That’s when the signing of Eisa should make sense. Leeds will need a fresh spark in their side and Eisa can provide that, playing second fiddle to Bamford.
The Sudanese’s spell with Bristol didn’t go as planned but he has managed to revive his form with Peterborough. The League One isn’t as difficult as the Championship but Eisa is clearly showing bags of potential in the third tier.
Leeds are currently placed 2nd in the Championship table after a good first half of the season and Bielsa has his sights firmly set on achieving promotion to the top-flight.
They need some stability and consistency to their promotion push going into the second half of the season, and the signing of Eisa could well provide them with that.
