Why Leeds Over Aston Villa Would Be A Better Destination For Jack Marriott

Peterborough United are having an interesting transfer window and are looking to cash in, rejecting the overtures of at least three Championship clubs so far, regarding £4million-rated striker Jack Marriott. Marriott confirmed his reputation and added to his transfer value when he scored a brace against one of his suitors, Aston Villa, in the FA Cup last Saturday, as his League One side turned over their illustrious opponents at Villa Park.

That now means that Marriott has a total of 23 goals and 4 assists in 36 appearances in all competitions this term and his performances certainly haven’t gone unnoticed.

Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony has reportedly already rejected bids of around £3.5million for the striker from unnamed clubs, though it is thought that Leeds United and Villa are the main bidders for the former Luton Town man.

It is thought that Birmingham City are also interested, however, they are highly unlikely to beat their two rivals to his signature in a fair fight, given their perilous position in the league table. Director of Football Barry Fry claims that the club have also had tentative enquiries made about Marriott from Premier League clubs, though it would appear the Championship would be enough of a step up right now.

Fry claims that they are not willing to sell the player, as they want Marriott to help them get to Wembley and also to the Championship. However, given Fry’s dealings in the past, it would seem that if you throw enough money his way, his penchant would be to take it and bank it.

If Marriott does leave then, it appears that Villa or Leeds could be the direction he moves to but which one would be the best?

There’s no doubt Aston Villa could do with a striker, given that they have more quantity than quality in the squad; there’s unreliability this term about Kodjia, Hogan and Agbonlahor, leaving the young Keinan Davis shouldering most of the burden.

Leeds have a similar problem too, as Grot is only a young lad while Cibicki and Ekuban have not really cut the mustard. With Pierre-Michel Lasogga so unpredictable and untrustworthy, a No.9 like Marriott would be perfect for Leeds United.

Given that they have the strength to eventually be the closest challengers to Wolves, the move should be a no-brainer for the player too. Leeds would be my choice.
