According to a report from Manchester Evening News, Manchester United are set to launch a bid for a striker in January with AC Milan’s Krzysztof Piatek.
Krzysztof Piatek, 24, had an outstanding start to life in Italy last season as he scored 19 goals in 21 games for Genoa before AC Milan brought him to San Siro in January.
The Pole’s form has slightly dipped since joining AC Milan, with 13 goals in 28 games, but that can be explained by the problems the club is in that has also resulted in the sacking of Marco Giampaolo earlier this week.
The report adds Manchester United will face competition from Barcelona, who view Piatek as a potential replacement for Luis Suarez. However, the Red Devils must do everything in their power to beat Barcelona to the AC Milan star’s signature in January.
United have been short of goals and are lacking options following the summer exit of Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez to Inter Milan. By flogging Lukaku and Sanchez, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer decided to put faith in Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial to lead the attack.
While Rashford has looked completely out of sorts of late, Martial has struggled with a hamstring problem since the 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace.
Solskjaer’s side have been woeful this term and sit 12th in the table, having won only two of their eight Premier League games. Having picked up just nine points out of a possible 24, this is United’s worst start to a campaign for 30 years.
The United board will apparently continue with the Norwegian tactician with the view of him overseeing a three-year plan to restore the club to their former heights.
The Red Devils boss is likely to be busy in January as he looks to find the reliable goalscorer his squad lacks at the moment. And Krzysztof Piatek would fit the bill perfectly at Old Trafford.
Piatek is a fantastic finisher who comes alive in the box and finishes his chances with aplomb. A natural goalscorer, the 24-year-old terrorises opposition defenders with his clever movement in and around the box.
His great technique plus his aerial ability and strength to hold off defenders means he could settle down well in English football if he ends up making the move.
Without a shadow of a doubt, Piatek should only get better with age and experience, and is the type of young exciting signing that United should make in January to solve their goalscoring woes.
