The Telegraph suggests that Newcastle United are ready to make a January signing despite Steve Bruce claiming there will not be any reinforcements.
Newcastle have jumped to 11th position after back-to-back wins against Sheffield United and Southampton respectively. They were inspired by their impressive display against Manchester City prior to the midweek match against the Blades.
The Magpies have regrouped after their poor start to the season and have shown promises of finishing in a respectable position for the first time after they were promoted to the top-flight in 2017.
In spite of their good form of late, there is one area where Steve Bruce must be concerned about while getting into the tougher festive period. Their attacking unit has not been productive so far and Newcastle’s forwards have accounted for just 2 goals altogether.
They signed Joelinton but the Brazilian has scored just once in 14 league games. Miguel Almiron is yet to score for the Magpies and Allan Saint-Maximin, despite being brilliant for them, has just scored one.
In this regard, Steve Bruce can look to Hull City star Jarrod Bowen as the manager is a fan of the 22-year-old, according to the Telegraph.
Bowen has been impressive so far in the Championship for the Tigers. At the moment, he is in a rich vein of form and his 15 goals in 20 games are proof of his goalscoring abilities, which Newcastle have clearly lacked.
The winger is currently the top scorer in the Championship along with Fulham’s Aleksandar Mitrovic. He is considered to be a bright talent and has been a key member of Grant McCann’s squad this season. Bowen came through the ranks of Hull City’s youth system and has quickly made a name for himself in the league.
A right-winger by nature, Bowen has been playing everywhere on the right flank. He has done well while being deployed as an attacking midfielder too.
He has also played as a striker and right-midfielder for Hull City this season. Therefore, his versatility would give Steve Bruce a lot of options to deploy him according to a situation.
According to Whoscored, Bowen has registered 3.8 shots, 1.3 key passes and 2 dribbles per game this term. With an average of 21.7 passes a game, he has enjoyed a pass success rate of 69.4%.
These numbers show that he has the ability to develop if he gets exposed to the Premier League and joining Newcastle would pave the way for his success.
In Newcastle, Bowen can be a successful back-up for Joelinton and Almiron, who are struggling to score at the moment. This would benefit the Magpies, who need to score plenty to see themselves in a decent position.
Therefore, Newcastle must sign the young Bowen, who can bolster their attack and can go on to be Newcastle’s important player in the longer run.
