Why it might be time for Harry Kane to leave Tottenham Hotspur

According to Sky Sports, Arsenal legend Paul Merson believes Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane must rethink his future at his childhood club. Kane has been with the Lilywhites since 2004, playing for four different clubs on loan to become a regular starter at Hotspur.

Into his eighth Premier League season with 130 goals, he has an impressive 0.68 goals per match stat. He has also supplied 19 assists so far. These figures are far better than those of many Premier League winners’ but Kane is yet to win any trophy so far in his career.

On an individual level, Kane has won the Premier League Golden Boot award twice – in 2015-16 and 2016-17. However, their lack of success as a team should be enough to force him to rethink his future at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The closest that they got to win a trophy was in the 2016-17 season when they finished second behind Chelsea in the Premier League. The Lilywhites also reached their first-ever Champions League final last season but were beaten by Liverpool.

Looking at their current form, it looks like they will finish outside the top four this season, meaning there won’t be the prospect of playing in the Champions League the next term.

Having won just two league games, the north Londoners must brace themselves to face table leaders Liverpool this weekend.

Kane, who currently earns around £200,000-a-week, is just 26 and still has many years of football left in him. He has been linked with La Liga giants Real Madrid in the past. Los Blancos have won three Champions Leagues in a row over the past four years.

Despite their poor performances, Kane hasn’t let his bar down. He has scored five goals and provided an assist in his nine league appearances while scoring four goals in three games in the Champions League.

If Kane wants to add some trophies to his glorious career, he must make a move and emerge out of the Lilywhites’ shadow. He is currently contracted with Hotspur until 2024 but his performances have been so impressive that any team would love to pay his release clause and secure his services.
