Why Hull City should offer Jarrod Bowen a new deal at the earliest

According to the Hull Daily Mail, Hull City are prepared to offer star winger Jarrod Bowen a new deal, with Tigers boss Grant McCann keen to secure the youngster’s long-term future at the KCOM Stadium. 

The 22-year-old is currently in the final year of his contract in East Yorkshire but Hull City have the option to extend his stay by a further twelve months, meaning that Bowen is effectively tied down until the summer of 2021. 

Despite Hull City’s lacklustre start to the ongoing campaign under Grant McCann, the right-winger has already hit the ground running in emphatic fashion, scoring 5 goals in 9 appearances across all competitions. 

Bowen joined Hull from non-league side Hereford United back in 2014 and made his first-team debut for the Tigers back in the 2016-17 season when they were in the Premier League.

However, it was only in the 2017-18 season that he established himself as a regular starter for the club, having set the stage on fire with 14 goals in his first full campaign for the Tigers. 

The 22-year-old left-footed winger hasn’t looked back since then and has carved out a massive reputation for himself as one of the brightest talents in the second-tier.

Bowen has by far been Hull City’s most influential attacker over the past three seasons and his tally of 40 goals and 6 assists in 96 Championship outings lies testimony to his rapid development. 

Indeed, those impressive numbers haven’t eluded the eyes of the Premier League clubs and Bowen was one of the Championship stars to have been heavily courted by a number of top-flight outfits in the summer, although a move ultimately failed to materialize. 

The youngster stayed put for at least another four months but the Tigers should be aware of the possibility of the Premier League clubs coming back to nab their prized asset away when the transfer window reopens in January. 

To that end, a new contract for Jarrod Bowen should be a no-brainer for Hull City. Not only would a fresh deal go a long way towards securing the future of one of the club’s best players, but it would also put the Tigers in a strong negotiating position in the upcoming transfer windows, amidst interest from the top-flight clubs. 

They shouldn’t really be looking to sell the 22-year-old but, given the pulling power of the Premier League clubs and the riches on offer in the top-flight, the Tigers might ultimately have to relent to the pressure. In that case, a new contract would make sure that Hull City bag a massive profit from Bowen’s sale.

It is still unclear whether the 22-year-old is keen to put pen to paper on fresh and improved terms at the KCOM Stadium and another mediocre start to the season means that the Tigers are likely to have their work cut out in convincing the player to commit his future. 

Hull haven’t really been amongst the promotion favourites in the Championship since their relegation from the Premier League at the end of the 2016-17 season, despite Bowen and Kamil Grosicki consistently firing on all cylinders, and it is easy to see as to why the youngster is looking to keep his options open.

Nevertheless, Jarrod Bowen continues to be one of Hull City’s key players and they should leave no stone unturned in their efforts to tie him down to a new lucrative long-term deal.
