Why Gianluca Busio would be a smart long-term investment for Man United

Kansas City scouting director Edward Burleson has told TuttoMercatoWeb (h/t The Manchester Evening News) that Manchester United are one of a number of teams interested in signing Gianluca Busio.

Gianluca Busio, 17, is one of the Major League Soccer’s most exciting talents having played 22 times in the league last season and scoring three times. He starred for Kansas City in the MLS last season and performed for the USA at the U17 World Cup recently, where the Americans were dumped out in the group stage.

As a result of his displays, the teenage midfielder has also caught the attention of Inter Milan (h/t The Manchester Evening News). With the 17-year-old being linked with a move to Europe within the next few years, Manchester United must try to get Busio this January.

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has started the club’s rebuild by giving plenty of opportunities to young players this season. The United side that beat Brighton 3-1 on Sunday was the youngest the Premier League has seen this season, with an average age of 23 years and 350 days.

The Norwegian has put his faith in young players like Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Scott McTominay, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Andreas Pereira, Mason Greenwood, and Brandon Williams.

The Red Devils boss has tried to entertain fans with fast, attacking football and while the results haven’t been perfect, there is a sense of optimism building amongst the fans following a fantastic October.

That being said, Solskjaer must go for Gianluca Busio, who would be yet another fantastic addition to the existing pool of up and coming starlets at Old Trafford.

With Scott McTominay, Fred, Paul Pogba, James Garner, Nemanja Matic and Andreas Pereira vying for a place in the starting XI, Busio may have to wait patiently for opportunities if he were to move to United.

The young American, who is widely regarded as one of the most exciting talents in his nation, however, could prove to be an excellent long-term investment for Solskjaer’s Red army.

He could possibly add another dimension to United’s midfield in the years to come. Busio is only going to get better with time and he certainly has the talent to cut the mustard in any top league in Europe.

Verdict

All in all, the acquisition of the 17-year-old Gianluca Busio would be a smart way for United to freshen their squad up in January. Truly, this signing could pay rich dividends in the future.
