Marco Silva’s biggest issue next summer will be adding a forward, which has affected the club since Romelu Lukaku left the club.
While Cenk Tosun did arrive in January 2018, the Turkish striker has failed to make an impact under Silva. He did make an impact under Sam Allardyce, scoring 5 goals in 14 appearances but has struggled to get into Marco Silva’s team.
The former Watford boss has preferred to use either Richarlison or Dominic Calvert-Lewin instead, preferring pace instead of Tosun’s power.
But the club’s failure to add a new striker in the summer has proven to hurt them. While Calvert-Lewin has struggled to score goals, Richarlison, on the other hand, is more of a winger than a striker.
But despite Marco Silva’s insistence to play him as a false nine, the Brazilian has struggled to make an impact up front.
That’s exactly why the Toffees need to make a summer move for Davie Selke.
The 24-year-old still is a quality star to have, which has been showcased by his performances this season. In 21 Bundesliga appearances, the German has produced 11 goals, creating eight goals for his teammates.
It’s that creative skill which will help Everton going forward, allowing both Richarlison and Bernard to flourish. The German striker has a consistent scoring record, netting ten or more goals over the last seven seasons, which will further ease the Toffees’ issues.
While Selke will take time to adjust to the Premier League, his mentality and skill-set will help him do it with ease. A complete forward, the 24-year-old can play as a center-forward or as a false -nine, but it’s his creative work that complements his ability to score goals.
That combined with his work rate and athleticism makes him the perfect man for Everton.
